After calling the Lighthouse home from 2012 to 2023, Anne Marie has spent the past two years in the Lighthouse Legacy program, taking important steps toward independence. Now, as she transitions out of that program and fully embraces adulthood, her story shines as a testament to God’s steady hand of grace. From a sensitive nine-year-old arriving at the Lighthouse with little stability to a confident 23-year-old rooted in faith and hope, Anne Marie’s journey beautifully captures the heart of the ministry that has supported her every step of the way.
Welcomed with open arms
When the orphanage where Anne Marie had been living suddenly closed in the summer of 2012, she was the last child remaining with nowhere to go. JiHM staff, already acquainted with her, stepped in to offer her a new home just down the road at the Lighthouse.
At just nine years old, Anne Marie had already endured many difficult transitions: from losing both of her parents, to leaving her home and extended family in the Southeast of Haiti, life had been anything but easy. But from her first day at the Lighthouse, she was met with love, stability, and the promise of family.

Those who know Anne Marie remember her early years for her radiant smile and bold personality. Even as a child, her powerful singing voice stood out, often filling church sanctuaries and school stages. Whether competing in talent shows or leading worship, she sang with her whole heart. Her music became both a comfort and an expression of her faith, helping her navigate the pain of her past.

Growing in love and responsibility
Over the years, Anne Marie became known for many things beyond her voice: her charisma, her kindness, her determination, and her initiative. She often helped younger children with their homework, cared for them when they were sick, and pitched in with daily chores, always ready to serve. She formed deep bonds with her Lighthouse family, especially Mama Odette, whom she now calls one of her heroes. Her biological family also remained an important part of her life, and she continues to talk regularly with her brothers and sisters, drawing encouragement from their love and advice.

Faith that took root
In 2016, Anne Marie made one of the most significant decisions of her life: to be baptized as a public declaration of her faith in Christ. It was a moment of profound conviction for a girl who had already experienced more than most her age, but she chose to trust God fully.
“I was ready,” she said, “to follow Jesus completely.”

Nearly 10 years later, Anne Marie says she has a beautiful relationship with Jesus, and her faith grows deeper each year.
Looking ahead
This summer, Anne Marie completed her coursework in secretarial administration and quickly put her training to use. She now works as a secretary for a local school and is also serving in an internship to gain additional experience in her field. Each opportunity has strengthened her confidence and confirmed that she’s right where God wants her to be.

Though she loves administrative work, Anne Marie still dreams of one day building a career in hospitality and tourism, where she can help others see the beauty of her country. “I want people to see the beautiful sides of Haiti,” she said. “That is my dream.”

Anne Marie carries immense gratitude for the people who have shaped her path. In a letter to JiHM’s operations director, she wrote, “Thank you for every gesture, every word, every opportunity offered. You have been a quiet but powerful pillar in my life.”
And to the entire JiHM family, she expressed, “Your support has been an invaluable blessing in my life… You have helped shape the person I am becoming, and I will never stop being grateful to you.”
Thank you for being part of this story of resilience and redemption for the past 13 years. As Anne Marie continues to grow in independence—working, learning, and trusting the Lord for each next step—we praise God for the young woman she has become. The same God who carried her this far will continue to gently shine His light on her path ahead.
